Google Ads
Connect Google Ads to Umami Cloud to see the cost, clicks, impressions, and conversions of your ad campaigns alongside your website analytics.
Connect Google Ads to a website to see how your ad campaigns perform and what they cost. Umami shows your spend, clicks, impressions, click-through rate, and conversions for campaigns, ad groups, and keywords next to the rest of your analytics.
Google Ads is an integration and requires a Pro or Business plan. Umami reads ad data from Google whenever you open the report and caches it for a few minutes. Nothing is stored in Umami.
Before you begin#
You need a Google account with access to the Google Ads account that advertises your website. If you manage ads through a manager account, connect with a Google account that has access to the manager account. You will choose the client account that runs the ads.
Connect Google Ads#
Log into Umami and click on the side nav profile button then click Settings.
Navigate to Integrations, click on the Add integration button, and choose Google Ads.
Select the Website to show ad data for. This can't be changed later. Click Continue with Google, choose your Google account, and grant Umami access to Google Ads.
You will be returned to the Integrations page. If your Google account can reach only one Google Ads client account, it is selected automatically. Otherwise, click on the Edit button next to the integration and select the Google Ads account that advertises your website.
Only client accounts are listed. Manager accounts have no ad metrics of their own, so choose the client account below the manager instead.
Viewing ad data#
Navigate to a website and click the Ads tab.
| Metric | Description |
|---|---|
| Cost | Amount spent on ads, in the currency of your Google Ads account. |
| Clicks | Number of clicks on your ads. |
| Impressions | Number of times your ads were shown. |
| CTR | Click-through rate, the percentage of impressions that resulted in a click. |
| Conversions | Number of conversions recorded by Google Ads. |
| Conversion value | Total value of those conversions, as recorded by Google Ads. |
Ad data can be broken down by Campaigns, Ad groups, and Keywords, sorted by cost.
Ad data comes from Google, so it is reported in whole days in your Google Ads account's time zone, and recent days may not be available yet. Conversions are the ones tracked in Google Ads, not Umami events or goals. Filters don't apply to ad data, and a date range can cover at most two years.
Troubleshooting#
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| No accounts are listed | The Google account you connected can't read any Google Ads client accounts. Disconnect the integration and connect again with a Google account that has access to the ad account. |
| The report asks you to choose a Google Ads account | No account is selected for the integration, or a manager account is selected. Edit the integration and select a client account. |
| The report says the Google Ads account is unavailable | The connected Google account has lost access to the selected Google Ads account. Restore access in Google Ads, or edit the integration and select another account. |
| The report asks you to reconnect | Google rejected the connection. Disconnect the integration and connect it again. |
| Google access was denied | Connect again and grant Umami access to Google Ads on Google's consent screen. |
| Google did not grant lasting access | Remove Umami from your Google account's third-party access and connect again. |
Disconnect Google Ads#
Navigate to Integrations and click on the Disconnect button next to the integration. Ad data will no longer be shown for the website. To revoke access, remove Umami from your Google account's third-party access.
